Geylang Serai Bazaar

Went to check out the bazaar today before it closes next week!
I'm really not a squeeze in the crowds and hot air kind of person so it took a long time before I convinced myself to go. π³

First up was a kebab and some cinnamon sugar Churros with chocolate sauce. (I actually saw this stall all over the bazaar.)
Love Churros π These were $4 - not cheap, but then again, part of the price is always the experience and the stall owners have to make a living too.

And then... I decided to queue up for this. π³ The queue looked short until I realized it was a U shaped queue so the end of the line was way further than I'd thought.

I think it took more than 20 minutes but I emerged victorious! πͺπ»

I like it! Of course it's a bit over rated, but I like the taste of watermelon and this was very refreshing in the heat. (I got the medium for $6.90).

Then I ate these kaya/Nutella/cheese/red bean filled balls.
The Nutella ones were the best, they tasted like chocolate-mochi-filled crepe balls.

YUMMERZ. π

AND. FRIED SQUID.
I love love love squid. I'll search for squid if there is squid to be found.
I got the seaweed and pepper flavour for $7. And would have eaten it all up if I could. π

Then the sister and I got scammed by the henna shop Saheli. We saw the white henna and wanted to try it out.
The guy "selling" it told us it was "instant henna" that would dry in 5 minutes and last for 5-7 days. Sounds good, right? I love henna but I don't like the long waiting process waiting for it to dry while trying to avoid things bumping into things with my hand.

The lady who did the henna for me told me to wait 10 minutes at the side when I was done.
After 10 minutes I asked the lady at the washing station but she told me there was no need to wash it.
I was so confused - the salesman said wash it after 5 minutes, the artist told me to wait 5-10 minutes and the last girl told me there was no need to wash it.
BUT IT DIDN'T DRY. We had to google after we got home to see that we had to powder it.

And then after I washed my hair... Most of the henna on my fingers had dropped off, and even now parts of it are falling away. π
I found out after googling that there is no white henna. It's just white adhesive. I should have gone for the traditional henna instead. π this cost $15?
When it comes to art, I normally try not to be iffy about prices because I used to spend a lot of time on deviantart and an art forum.

Of course it's unfair to complain about the price of an art piece because that's what the artist feels is the rate for their work. And artists need to make a living too.
So, $15, sure, if it looks good and lasts as it's supposed to be. (Money can be earned again, but memories and experiences can't.)
But... It didn't. πͺ I predict by tomorrow most of the patterns on my fingers will be gone.

But... Oh well. It was an experience I guess. π
I edited this photo just for Instagram, which is why it's much brighter than the others! Good thing I took some photos before I bathed because whatever's on my hand now looks π

Some updates: met up with the girl for lunch at The Lawn, just outside Tanjong Pagar MRT!
I'm suddenly really into all these ridiculously expensive salad places. π³ I ate at Munch on my birthday, and then at The Lawn two days later.
It was nice to meet up for a quick chat though.

Our salads which were $13++ each. I chose baby potatoes, corn, grapes, bell peppers and fusilli pasta. With maple peanut if I remember correctly.
It tasted like ketupat sauce hahaha. I loved the Red Island sauce she got though!

I got the Rosti with Chicken Caesar Salad at Munch. I love Rosti hehe.

And on Thursday (my posts are all over the place gosh) I went with my fellow interns to Noodle Story. I had no idea we were eating there but I was wondering why my friend beelined straight for the shop without looking for a seat first. π Good thing there were seats right in front of the store.
This was so good? π± I totally would not mind eating this again (and again) but the queue is crazy.

Two wontons that are stuffed with loads of shrimp (so juicy and tasty), one prawn wrapped with fried potato strings, fatty pork, and loads of springy noodles. It was so good π for $5.90 it was really worth it, and the Japanese-Chinese fusion mix was really interesting. It's at 01-39 at Amoy Food Centre if I remember correctly so check it out if you're in the area! Not during the lunch crowd though. π
